Snuggle Up & Get Cosy

The days may be getting longer but they are certainly getting colder!

Even though many of us are working from home ….. from your bed, sofa or desk, we want to be as cosy as we can.

Just before Christmas we had some beautiful velvet throws and cushions arrive in stock. The deep earthy colours are shockingly gorgeous and will add luxury and cosiness to your interiors. I did sneak the Bronze and Eucalyptus ones for myself.

Kimonos …. We are slowly finding new items to share with you and next week we will have some stunning new kimonos arriving, just in time for you to float around your home and get in the kimono mood :)

Keep a close eye on the website as many are one offs.

That word is going to be with us for some time until the world gradually gets back to normal - although I’m not sure what ’normal’ is right now.

As manufacturing continues all over the world, many shippers in Asian countries have put a premium price on containers. These costs are so huge for both small and large businesses. The reason for these eye watering charges has been the lack of containers available during these challenging times. Hopefully these circumstances will begin to ease and the costs will eventually come down ….. we pray sooner rather than later. We were extremely lucky to receive our one and only container of 2020 in December, something we hope will not be repeated in 2021.

This has affected the supply chain all over the world and together with Brexit we will be experiencing delays in receiving all our lovely new stock and we hope you will bear with us during this process.

We Are Back

Hi, this is Karen and my apologies to everyone who has been waiting to see our new upgraded website. Well, we are finally here with lots of stunning new pieces and news.

Firstly we would like to thank everyone who has supported this small business through the most nerve racking time, our appreciation goes out to our customers and also suppliers. As we source from all the world our suppliers are struggling to keep production flowing due to lockdowns and daily changes. Over time these problems pass on down through the chain and items may take much longer to deliver than normal.

WE'RE NOT MOVING ... I did purchase a shop to move into just before lockdown and because of lockdown it was impossible to purchase the materials to get it ready. The shop hadn't been updated for some 40 years so there was lots of work to do!. SO……. I decided to keep Doris in it’s current location in Union Lane which has been the best decision. During the past few weeks the builders have been busy working in the new premises laying a cobbled stone floor, knocking through to the original fireplace and exposing a couple of gorgeous red brick walls. To be honest I would like to move in (just me). It's not quite finished but I have been enjoying doing some photographic images for our new website which you can see in the main blog image.

What we will do with the new premises is still undecided so WATCH THIS SPACE.

ART WORK - (featured above)

Katie is a young lady whom I have known since she was born. She came into this world with a pencil in her hand. Gone are the days when she would sketch cute hamsters and fairies as a young girl. Katie now spends her days concentrating on painting techniques, nudes and there are also some quite risqué drawings. @hellish.h. Katie is not one to put herself out there to sell her work, but with the help of her Mum I was able to persuade her to sell me 3 pieces. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM and will be placing them in my bedroom once that's also has been painted!

The frames are from Picture Frame Express @pictureframeexpress. I thought the dark wood and gold would suit the work perfectly. I have never been one for Gold but the art work has influenced me to change my style.

This now leads me onto Rock The Kasbah who are a fabulous interior design company headed by French Designer Philippe Xerri. We have just received some new pieces including the Gold Leaf Floor Lamp with Black Shade, it's an amazing piece hence photographing it with the art in front of the red brick wall. We have stock of the shades, floor lamps and there are more new designs on the way.

Hello 2020!

There is nothing like tough times to focus the mind and 2019 proved to be a miserable time on the High Street with many, much loved, retailers ceasing to trade.

So it's time for change and we are busy planning for a new, productive and exciting 2020.

In the next few months DORIS BRIXHAM will be MOVING!

We have loved our time at No 10 Union Lane and over the last 5 years in this location we have met lots of lovely new customers who discovered us in the centre of Brixham.

We are not travelling far ..... our new outlet will be on Middle Street, just across the road from the main car park and there is a fabulous coffee shop right next door - perfect!

We are reducing our showroom space and refining our collection of home accessories, while ensuring there will be lots of lovely new 'must have' pieces.

Have no fear ..... we will keep you posted on when the move will happen but for now we will have lots of renovations to do to ensure our new home will be as inspirational as ever.

Happy Easter Weekend

Happy Easter!

We have been promised a warm and sunny weekend and apart from having fun with the children on the Easter Egg Hunt we can't wait to get stuck into organising our gardens ready for the months ahead.

We have been busy choosing the veggie plants we want to grow this season together with aromatic herbs and a variety of salads ........ but alongside the planting there are little corners and spaces which are crying out for that special ornament for that finishing touch. Trouble is every-time we think we are finished we find another gorgeous object that just has to come home with us.

We have recently taken delivery of some fabulous garden ornaments so the choice is now even harder. You can view the whole collection in our Garden section but here are a few to feast the eye ...

Perfect for a peaceful area of the garden is a selection of Buddhas and Monks as well as Lord Ganesh and an Eastern Goddess.
